DISMUN I
DATE: SEPTEMBER 25 - 27 2026
HOUSE OF CARDS
Welcome Delegates!
Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors, and Honourable Guests,

On behalf of the DISMUN Secretariat, it is our great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you for DISMUN II 2026, an external Model United Nations conference hosted by Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong from September 12th to September 13th, 2026.

Building on the success of our inaugural conference, DISMUN II opens its doors to students from across Shanghai and beyond. This year, our theme is “House of Cards”—a reflection on the fragile structures underpinning our world order and the delicate balance of diplomacy, power, and trust. Through debate and collaboration, delegates will be invited to examine the resilience of global systems and explore how easily they may falter, yet also how they can be rebuilt with stronger foundations.

This theme is designed to challenge delegates of all experience levels to think critically about international institutions, shifting alliances, and the precarious nature of global governance. Whether tackling complex crises or working toward cooperative solutions, delegates will be tasked with steadying the balance in a world where even the smallest decisions may cause far-reaching consequences.

As the conference dates approach, we will continue to share updates regarding delegate registration, committee allocations, and background guides.

We look forward to welcoming you to Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong this September for a weekend of rigorous debate, diplomatic growth, and a vivid exploration of our House of Cards!

Warm regards,

The DISMUN Secretariat
Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong

THEME EXPLICATION
The theme “House of Cards” reflects the fragile, intricate, and precarious nature of the international order. Just as a house of cards can rise into a complex structure yet collapse with the smallest disturbance, so too can alliances, institutions, and balances of power that govern our world. This theme challenges delegates to recognize both the strength and vulnerability of global systems and to consider the consequences of even minor disruptions, oversights, or miscalculations. The delicate equilibrium of diplomacy, economics, and security is constantly tested by internal and external pressures.

In diplomacy, stability is never permanent; it must be maintained through cooperation, foresight, and restraint. A single policy misstep, conflict, or crisis can set off a chain reaction that topples established frameworks, while careful negotiation and principled leadership can fortify them against collapse. Delegates are encouraged to analyze the interdependent nature of international relationships, the hidden vulnerabilities that lie beneath seemingly robust structures, and the ripple effects of each decision. They must also consider how ambition, ideology, and short-term gain can destabilize long-term progress, and how resilient institutions can mitigate such risks.

Engaging with this theme requires delegates to question assumptions, anticipate challenges, and weigh ethical considerations alongside practical consequences. By exploring the interplay between power, responsibility, and fragility, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the mechanisms that sustain global stability and the strategies necessary to reinforce it. The theme compels critical thinking, strategic planning, and an appreciation for both visible and subtle forces shaping international affairs, ultimately preparing delegates to navigate the complexities and uncertainties inherent in diplomacy with insight and prudence.
